Helping orphaned and vulnerable children change their lives
Welcome to
Lifting Spirits
We raise funds to pay for orphaned and vulnerable children to go to school.
Boys and girls who are hungry to learn and improve their future often don’t have the chance. The caregivers or parents of the orphaned and vulnerable children can’t afford to educate them.
You can help make their dreams come true!
The children do most of the hard work. They study in crowded classrooms and face exams without access to all the textbooks or internet they need, whilst living in basic conditions and dealing with losing loved ones. But they don’t let these challenges get in their way.
They want to learn!

All donations go to supporting children.
Every single penny!
-
Corporate sponsors
Are you a company looking to make a positive difference and show your team and stakeholders how much you care? For just £33 a month, you can sponsor a vulnerable boy or girl’s education for the entire year – putting a huge smile on their face and changing their future. We would love to talk you through the next steps.
-
Personal donations
Every penny helps truly change the lives of these vulnerable children – we welcome any amount you can kindly share. You can also team up with family members or friends to sponsor a child for the year together. A group of five would pay £1.60 a week each for the full sponsorship for a girl or boy, for example.

Welcome volunteers
Would you like to help raise awareness, fundraise or any other role you think can support us? Our volunteer team welcomes fresh ideas and energy. Just one hour of time can make a difference, so imagine what ten hours a year could do! We’d love to hear from you.

Where do we work?
The Kingdom of Eswatini
Eswatini is a beautiful kingdom in southern Africa. Home to the Swazi tribe, it is known for its friendliness, its unique tribal culture and spectacular nature. However, it struggles economically.
Our Founder Michelle’s love for Eswatini began nearly 40 years ago. She was born in the capital, Mbabane, and spent her childhood in Ezulwini Valley, which means ‘place of heaven’ in the local language, SiSwati. She has a deep respect of Swazi culture and is privileged to have grown up with Swazi friends whom she considers family.
Time and time again, she has seen how the tightknit family culture means helping one student thrive sparks a positive domino effect across the whole community.
This truly changes lives.
The more children with the opportunity to learn, the greater their chance of finishing their formal education and getting a good job – and continuing the cycle for their children!
Where is it?
-
58%
of the children in Eswatini are orphaned and vulnerable.
-
38%
of households in rural areas care for at least one orphan, which involves a significant financial and emotional effort.
-
27.4%
of the population has HIV/AIDS – one of the highest rates worldwide.
-
£3
a day is approximately what half of the population in Eswatini lived on in 2022.
-
60%
of the total population is under 29 years old – a young demographic bursting with potential!
